Whilst Liverpool have been firing on all cylinders so far this season, the same cannot be said of Daniel Sturridge.

The England striker has been a bit-part player under Jurgen Klopp this campaign due to the form of his teammates and nagging injury issues. Many of his eight Premier League appearances have come as a substitute and he is still waiting for his first league goal of the season.

Plenty of Liverpool fans were expecting that goal to come today with talk this week that Sturridge would be in the starting XI as Klopp and co. welcome Sunderland to Anfield.

However, that won't be the case after various reports this morning have revealed that the 27-year-old striker will miss the 3 p.m. kick off due to a "minor calf issue".

Although the issue that, according to the Liverpool Echo, has kept Sturridge out of several training sessions this week isn't believed to be serious, it is another knock to add to an extensive list for the former Manchester City and Chelsea forward.

And, given Sturridge's history with injuries the news, as you might expect, has gone down like a tonne of bricks with the Anfield faithful.

However, whilst the latest injury setback appears to be the final straw for some Liverpool fans who have grown tired of Sturridge's inability to stay fit, the injury-prone striker has received some sympathy from other supporters.

With a potential chance to end his goal drought against Sunderland now set to pass him by, Sturridge is set to endure another frustrating weekend out of the Liverpool team.

There's no doubt that the England international has an eye for goal. His goals to game ratio proves that.

Unfortunately, it seems that, whilst he might not have trouble finding the back of the net, Sturridge does have issues when it comes to making himself available to Klopp.

With the likes of Sadio Mane, Firmino and Philippe Coutinho forming a dangerous attacking trio at Anfield, this latest injury issue isn't likely to help Sturridge's cause as he looks to break back into the starting XI.
