The majority of the WWE Universe must be thinking to themselves 'surely an 86 seconds encounter wasn't always in mind for Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar'.
If you were one of the fans that did think that, you would be correct. The initial plans were changed roughly a week before Survivor Series took place.
As we all know, it ended in just over a minute as Goldberg produced two mammoth spears and then finished Lesnar off with a Jackhammer for good measure, picking up the one, two, three.
It takes Goldberg's record against The Beast Incarnate to 2-0, but throughout the feud, it always looked like it was Lesnar who was going to go over, and that was the initial plan.
According to NoDQ, when WWE first got Goldberg vs Lesnar sealed and organised, the plan was to have Paul Heyman's client get revenge for his defeat at WrestleMania 20.
Lesnar was meant to go over once more, adding the former WCW Champion to his list of conquered superstars.
However, once Goldberg signed an updated deal a week or so before the pay-per-view, that made WWE change their minds.
After agreeing to return to the squared circle, Goldberg initially signed a one-match deal with the company, but that changed days before Survivor Series, and that then allowed WWE to have him go over on Lesnar.
Not only were the initial plans to have Lesnar win, they were also going to build it up like a proper fight. One idea pitched was that they presented it like a real fight, including the commentary, and even had the finish similar to an MMA fight.
However, Goldberg extended his deal with WWE and the two are now likely to have a rematch at WrestleMania 33.
