With Christmas just around the corner, there will be plenty of punters trying to take advantage of the extra festive fixtures by making a bit of money before Santa arrives next month.

And one lucky person is set for a very special celebration after absolutely smashing a 16-fold accumulator on Friday night.

Ladbrokes were the unfortunate victims of one of the biggest payouts of the season so far - a whopping £288,738.27.

One unnamed punter based in south Wales put on a crazy £15 bet to predict the outcome of 16 matches, including all ten Dutch second division fixtures.

Amazingly, the winner correctly forecasted that there would be eight home wins and two away victories in the Eerste Divisie - whether that was down to extensive research or just sheer luck, we'll never know but very nicely done all the same.

You can see the full betting slip below as he/she kicked off the weekend in style with a magnificent win.

As well as the 10 results from Holland, said person also required games in Germany, France and Poland to come off too.

There were certainly a few bold calls that significantly boosted the winnings. For example, before kick off Stade Rennais had odds of 2.40 to beat Toulouse at home in Ligue 1, which they just about managed - holding on to a narrow 1-0 win after taking the lead in the first minute.

Meanwhile, mid-table Dutch side RKC Waalwijk (valued at 2.60) had to come from behind to overcome De Graafschap.

Nevertheless, it was a fantastic effort from someone whose friends and family might now be expecting to receive a few more lavish gifts for Christmas.

Friday night betting could just be the way forward!
