Luke Shaw has revealed the one player he would love to play alongside at some point in his career.

But, providing Shaw stays at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future, it is extremely unlikely the full back will ever line up alongside his dream teammate.

Even in their current plight, Manchester United can still boast having some of the biggest and best names in the business.

Despite missing out on Champions League qualification last time out, the Red Devils were still able to attract the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the club.

However, there is still one man who even Man United could struggle to sign anytime soon - Lionel Messi.

The Argentine superstar has been at Barcelona since the age of 13 and the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is widely considered to be one of the greatest players of all-time.

And although the 29-year-old has little over 18 months left to run on his current deal at the Camp Nou, he is still expected to sign a new contract and eventually see out his career in Barcelona.

Which is bad news for Shaw, who, when asked to pick the one player from either past or present he'd love to play with, named Messi.

"I would have loved to play with (David) Beckham but currently right now I'd have to say either Messi or Ronaldo," Shaw told Youtube star Tobiias.

"But I'm gonna say Messi. I'd love play with Messi, yeah for me, he's the best player in the world right now so I'd love to play alongside him or even hopefully one day in the same team."

You can see the full interview in the video below, where Shaw is also embarrassingly beaten by Tobiias in a crossbar challenge.

And his performances on the pitch haven't gone much better.

The 21-year-old has recently dropped behind Matteo Darmian in the pecking order at Man United and wasn't even included in the matchday squad for Sunday's 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Shaw has clearly got some work to do get back in Jose Mourinho's good books or a season of sporadic appearances in the Europa League and League Cup will await.
