Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United player could be another Kevin de Bruyne

Jose Mourinho may be one of the most successful managers in European football, but he doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to judging the ability of certain players.

The Portuguese boss has got rid of several players at previous clubs that have gone onto to become world-class.

And at Manchester United, it seems as though Mourinho is already starting to edge a few players towards the exit door at Old Trafford.

While losing the ageing Bastian Schweinsteiger is unlikely to come back and haunt United, there’s one player who Mourinho would surely regret selling.

Anthony Martial was the standout player for United last season after his big-money move from Monaco. However, Mourinho has hardly given him a chance this season - leaving him out of the matchday squad for the previous two fixtures.

As a result, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has urged Mourinho to keep him at the Theatre of Dreams or risk him becoming another transfer disaster.

“Martial is on the bench and if United let him go he could be another De Bruyne, a Lukaku or a Mata,” he said.

The three players mentioned by Redknapp have all gone on to prove Mourinho wrong after he sold them at whilst at Chelsea.

He allowed De Bruyne to join Wolfsburg in January 2014 for £18 million. In the summer of 2015, Manchester City brought him for £55 million and the Belgian is one of the most important players for United’s city rivals.

As for Lukaku, Mourinho gave him very few opportunities at Stamford Bridge. He sent him out on loan to West Brom and then Everton - before selling him to the Toffees for £28 million.

The striker is worth almost double that in today’s market with the 23-year-old scoring consistently for the Merseyside club.

And then there’s Mata.

The Spaniard won the club’s player of the year twice in a row before Mourinho decided he was surplus to requirements in west London. He joined United in a £37 million deal and is becoming one of the club’s most important players - something that Mourinho is benefitting from right now.

So, Redknapp believes that Mourinho will be making another massive transfer regret if he allows Martial to leave the club. But surely he has learned from his lessons, hasn’t he?
