Swans swoop for O'Halloran

Swansea manager Roberto Martinez has boosted his defensive options with the loan signing of Aston Villa defender Stephen O'Halloran.

The 20-year-old Republic of Ireland international has agreed a three-month switch to the Liberty Stadium and is set to provide cover for the injured Marcos Painter and also competition for Fede Bessone.

O'Halloran, who is comfortable at left-back and centre-back, telling the club's official website: "I'm looking forward to the challenge - I know Swansea play good football and I think it will suit my style of play,"

He added: "I watched Swansea play Cardiff in the Carling Cup a few weeks ago. They played really well and it looked like a fantastic atmosphere at the Liberty Stadium.

"I'm really looking forward to pushing for a starting place. My aim is to get as many games as possible under my belt, improve my match fitness, and help the Swans push up the Championship table."
