Arsenal secured top spot in their Champions League qualification group, ahead of French champions Paris Saint-Germain, thanks to an emphatic 4-1 away win over Basel.

The Gunners outclassed their opponents at St. Jakob-Park and found themselves 2-0 up after just 16 minutes thanks to a brace from summer signing Lucas Perez.

The Spanish forward completed his hat-trick shortly after half-time before Alex Iwobi netted Arsenal’s fourth of the night in the 53rd minute.

Give Arsenal fans an opportunity to troll Tottenham and they’ll inevitably take it.

And that’s precisely what happened on Twitter after Lucas completed his hat-trick against Basel on Tuesday night.

Perez’s treble means he has now scored as many Champions League goals as Spurs this season.

And here’s how Arsenal fans reacted…

For those who haven’t yet seen Lucas’s hat-trick, here’s a handy little minute-long video of all three of his goals.

Wenger hails Lucas

Arsene Wenger paid tribute to Lucas, who is likely to return to the subs bench for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Stoke City, after the match.

"I think Perez took advantage of the fact we created good chances," the veteran French coach told BT Sport, per Goal. "He is a goalscorer you know, he has shown he has a good smell for the goal."

Lucas was superb for Deportivo last season

Indeed, the reason Arsenal signed Lucas was because of his excellent return for Deportivo last season.

The 28-year-old scored 17 goals in 36 La Liga appearances for Depor last time and subsequently earned himself a lucrative £17.1 million transfer to the Emirates Stadium in August.

First-team opportunities have been few and far between for the forward during his first few months in north London but, as Wenger said in his post-match interview, he took his opportunity with both hands this week.
