With Real Madrid on a 33-match unbeaten run, you’d think that their fans would be in very high spirits at the Bernabeu.
They are six points clear of Barcelona in the La Liga table, having earned a draw at Camp Nou against Barcelona last weekend.
They have also progressed to the last-16 of the Champions League. However, they could only finish second in their group after throwing away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund in their final fixture.
It was during that match that Real Madrid fans expressed their anger.
With the realisation that they were about to finish behind their German opponents in their group, the Bernabeu faithful started booing.
No, seriously. The supporters starting booing their own side, despite them not having lost a competitive match since last April.
Of course, Cristiano Ronaldo was always going to react to the whistling and a video has captured exactly what he did.
After an angry Ronaldo made a tackle, he gestured to the crowd to “calm” down before swearing in Portuguese.
Take a look at his reaction below:
You really can’t blame Ronaldo for getting annoyed at the Madrid fans for their behaviour. Zinedine Zidane’s side are flying in the league and are well on course to defend the Champions League trophy.
However, maybe some of the fans realised the dangers of finishing second in their group.
Losing out to Dortmund means that Madrid could face a tough clash against Arsenal or Juventus in the last-16.
However, if they get lucky in Monday’s draw, Madrid could be drawn against Napoli, Monaco or Leicester - ties you’d definitely expect them to overcome.
If finishing second in their Champions League group is a worthy cause to start booing their side, maybe those Madrid fans should try supporting a less successful side. They’ll soon realise just how good they’ve got it watching the likes of Ronaldo and Gareth Bale every week.
