MacKinnon and the Maple Leafs held on to win 3-1, picking up the important road victory.

MacKinnon, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, has scored eight goals this season and has dished out 12 assists for a total of 20 points.

However, he and the Avalanche still find themselves in a tie for last place in the NHL Western Conference playoff standings.

The Avalanche return home on Wednesday night to face the red-hot Philadelphia Flyers. They'll also take on the Florida Panthers in a brief two-game homestand before hitting the road again.
