Colorado Avalanche C Nathan MacKinnon has proven his worth as a goal scorer and all-around talented player over the course of his three-year career.
However, on Sunday night, he displayed incredible toughness and focus with an amazing goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
MacKinnon took a stick from a Toronto defender to the face, but was able to persevere and find the back of the net.
In the below video, MacKinnon is clearly stunned by the high stick, but quickly manages to regain possession of the puck, skate through several defenders and beat the goalie for the score:
MacKinnon's goal would have been impressive even without taking a stick to the face. His skating prowess was on full display as he used equal parts finesse and speed to beat the Maple Leafs for the outstanding goal.
MacKinnon and the Maple Leafs held on to win 3-1, picking up the important road victory.
MacKinnon, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, has scored eight goals this season and has dished out 12 assists for a total of 20 points.
However, he and the Avalanche still find themselves in a tie for last place in the NHL Western Conference playoff standings.
The Avalanche return home on Wednesday night to face the red-hot Philadelphia Flyers. They'll also take on the Florida Panthers in a brief two-game homestand before hitting the road again.News Now - Sport News
