Late in the third period of the Detroit Red Wings' 6-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, the arena's fan cam landed on Mason, a young Detroit supporter.Mason wasted no time capturing the hearts of fellow Red Wing fans, earning big cheers as he smiled for the camera. However, when the camera switched away from Mason, Detroit fans decided they hadn't had enough, voicing their displeasure with the camera operator's choice. In the video, which can be seen below, when the camera cuts away from the adorable Mason, Red Wing fans boo loudly until Mason is put back on the screen, smiling away:

Eventually, the camera operator caught on to the crowd's shenanigans and alternated between shots of Mason and shots of the visiting Anaheim Ducks for a fun back-and-forth segment to close out a Detroit victory.

For his crowd-inspiring efforts, Mason was named the game's honorary first star, according to NHL.com.

Since the Red Wings held on for a much-needed 6-4 victory, maybe Mason could turn into the team's good-luck charm.

Even if the team is losing, the enthusiastic young fan is certain to inspire an energy boost in both the players and the fans.

As for the Red Wings, they embark on a three-game road trip starting Monday night at Carolina. The team, which currently sports a record of 14-14-4, will return home on Tuesday, Dec. 27, to host the Buffalo Sabres.
