Former Chelsea manager Avram Grant has revealed he did not want France striker Nicolas Anelka at the club.
Anelka arrived at Stamford Bridge in January from Bolton for £15million to add firepower to the Chelsea attack, but struggled last term with Grant at the helm. This season, though, under Luiz Felipe Scolari, it has been a different story and he leads the Barclays Premier League scoring charts with 13 goals to his name.
Grant said: "I didn't really need Anelka last season and I told him so. He is a very good player but needs more passion in his game."
Grant, who is out of work and has been linked with the vacant Sunderland job, also claimed Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich wanted him to stay at the club.
"Roman thought that I should stay but in this team the owner does not take all the decisions," he told The Guardian.
