Birmingham striker Garry O'Connor will be sidelined for six to eight weeks after being forced to undergo surgery on his troublesome groin injury.
The Scotland international picked up the problem while warming up at Loftus Road prior to the Championship clash against QPR in October.
It was initially thought rehab alone would suffice and allow the injury to heal, but O'Connor has now had to go under the knife to finally bring an end to the problem.
The 25-year-old told the club's official website: "I hope to be back as soon as possible. The plan is the operation will solve the problem and I can get back to where I left off - scoring goals for Birmingham City. That's something I'd like to be doing for a few years to come.
"Hopefully I'll be back in no time at all and certainly involved in the business end of the season and the final push for promotion."
Manager Alex McLeish added: "We will now put Garry through his rehabilitation and look forward to having him fit and available for selection again."
