Fans entitled to 'give stick' - James

David James believes Portsmouth fans are entitled to make their feelings known when their club take on Tottenham - and former Pompey boss Harry Redknapp - on Sunday.

England goalkeeper James and his team-mates travel to White Hart Lane amid heightened tensions after the Fratton Park clash earlier this season was marred by homophobic chants aimed at Pompey's former Spurs defender Sol Campbell, over which 11 people have been charged.

Both clubs have appealed for calm from their fans, but James said: "You pay your way and you are entitled to your opinion. As long as it is not racist or homophobic - give stick."

Since the clubs clashed in September, both Redknapp and striker Jermain Defoe have left Portsmouth for Tottenham.

And James said continued: "It is football. You can't all be happy chaps going around saying everyone's wonderful.

"As Isaac Newton said, there is an equal and opposite reaction to every action."
