Liverpool's Swiss defender Philipp Degen is expected to be sidelined for four to five weeks by a metatarsal injury.

Degen, who picked up the knock playing for the reserves against Manchester United last week, has been hampered by a series of injury problems during his debut season.

Scans have revealed there is no break to the metatarsal but it will still be at least a month before he is back in action for the Reds.
