Alex McLeish was left frustrated as his Birmingham side dropped two more points against Burnley to lose further ground in the Coca-Cola Championship promotion race.

The Blues fell behind in the third minute to a Martin Paterson strike and it required veteran striker Kevin Phillips' 13th goal of the season to rescue a point.

McLeish said: "Why didn't the players turn up for the first half?

He added: "We began very slowly and appeared to be in a trance. Burnley, to their credit, got out of the blocks very quickly.

"Despite our organisation, work and training we looked extremely vulnerable and it was almost as if they were saying to Burnley `hurry up and score'.

"It was an amazing first half but the second period was much better."
