Birmingham manager Alex McLeish is still keen to sign a centre-back, but is not sure whether or not a deal to bring Doncaster's Matthew Mills to St Andrews is a "goer".

The Blues put in a bid on deadline day, reported to be £1.5million, but it was quickly rejected by Rovers.

McLeish said: "I don't know if it is a goer, but I would be delighted if we can strengthen the position because I'm frustrated at not being able to get a centre-half to help strengthen it."

He added: "It's not a slight on the others in the squad, but i do believe that it is a position that we need to make a little bit stronger.

"I really don't know (about the Mills deal). I do the recommendations and then it is up to the board to do the deals."
