McLeish: Keith is like Messi

Alex McLeish hailed Keith Fahey's 'Messi like' strike as Birmingham beat Nottingham Forest 2-0.

The Irishman burst down the left and chipped the ball over Paul Smith and into the far corner to score his first goal for the club. Marcus Bent had already put Blues ahead in the 62nd minute when the ball fell nicely in the area following a tussle with Kelvin Wilson and he turned to prod the ball under Smith.

Although Fahey later admitted it was intended as a cross, McLeish was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, saying: " Keith's goal was almost 'Messi like', outside of the right foot and into the top corner."

McLeish added: "It looked a little bit of a fluke, as though he tried to put it across the goal and it landed in the corner, but if anyone deserved a goal for his performance then it was him."
