Ipswich forward Pablo Counago insists that Jim Magilton's squad remain confident of mounting a promotion challenge this season.

Magilton came under fire after the 1-1 draw with Blackpool 10 days ago but back-to-back wins over Nottingham Forest and QPR have pushed his side to within two points of the top six.

Counago said: "We have always believed that we can be in the running for the play-offs but the results in the last few weeks had been disappointing. The belief is there in the squad that we can make it."

He added: "There was some criticism of the team and the manager - it happens in football - but it was important for us to take six points from the last two games and we have done that.

"You can see that we have very good team spirit and are all working together. We are now in the chase for the play-offs with 12 big games to go."
