Arsenal target Ilkay Gundogan would see a potential move to the Emirates as an 'attractive proposition', journalist Pete O'Rourke has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The £165k-a-week ace is out of contract at the end of 2022/23 and has been subject to much speculation over his future in the last few months.

Arsenal latest transfer news - Ilkay Gundogan

Lately, The Mirror has reported that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is set to sit down with several of his players in the summer to try and sort out their futures.

Gundogan is believed to be one name that the Spaniard is eager to hold discussions with, given that his deal at the Etihad Stadium is due to end upon the conclusion of this term.

The Citizens are said to be hesitant to commit to giving the Germany international his preferred outcome of a two-year extension, prompting interest from Spain and Germany in his services.

Last year, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Arsenal were monitoring his situation at Manchester City with a view to making a move, with Gundogan at the time said to be keen if the Gunners could secure Champions League football, which now looks extremely likely.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Ilkay Gundogan?

Journalist O'Rourke believes that Guardiola would be reluctant to see Gundogan depart the Etihad this summer, especially if he was to go to a Premier League rival.

O'Rourke told GMS: "Yeah, I don't think he'd [Guardiola] ideally like to see one of his best players let go at Manchester City. He was obviously open to selling Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal. They've had a massive impact at the Emirates, so he won't want to go and strengthen one of his rivals and see one of his top players move to Arsenal but obviously, the Mikel Arteta factor is there at Arsenal as well, having worked with Gundogan before, so maybe that's why there is a consideration on Gundogan's part maybe if he does want a change of scenery and move to a new club, to work with Arteta again could be an attractive proposition for him."

Would Ilkay Gundogan be a good signing for Arsenal?

Being one of Guardiola's most trusted players over the last few years, Gundogan would represent a smart piece of business by Arsenal if Mikel Arteta was to secure him on a free transfer.

Famed for his late runs into the box and intelligence on the ball, the 32-year-old would fit well into the Gunners' system and would provide composure and quality in both defence and attack.

In 2022/23, Gundogan has recorded three goals and four assists for the Citizens in 33 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

WhoScored also notes that the midfielder has recorded a pass success rate of 88.6% in his exploits for club and country this campaign, demonstrating his ability to recycle possession with great efficiency.

Although he wouldn't be a long-term purchase, Gundogan still has a few years in him at Premier League level and would be a hit at the Emirates.
