About Chelsea FC
Chelsea Football Club is a professional club based in Fulham, London. They currently play in the Premier League.
Chelsea is among England’s most successful clubs, having won multiple league and cup titles as well as European trophies.
Founded in 1905, Chelsea currently play at Stamford Bridge which has a capacity of 40,834. They are nicknamed ‘The Blues’ after the colour of their home kit.
Chelsea has had lots of talented players and managers throughout its history, as well as periods of huge success. Under Gianluca Vialli, they won three trophies in 1998, as well as the FA Cup in 2000, following a period of improvement under player-manager Ruud Gullit.
Their most successful period followed the sale of the club to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2003, who invested heavily in players such as Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben and Michael Essien. Guided by charismatic manager Jose Mourinho, Chelsea won consecutive Premier League titles in 2004-05 and 2005-06, during a heavily competitive era of English football.
Carlo Ancelotti helped the club to a league and cup double in the 2009-10 season, becoming the first English top-flight club to score 100 league goals since 1963. They also won the 2012 FA Cup and UEFA Champions League, thanks to influential players such as Petr Cech, John Terry and Frank Lampard.
Lampard went on to become the club’s current manager in 2019, a role made harder by the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA for signing underaged players.
