Leeds United loanee Weston McKennie has 'other interest' in his services that could scupper his deal being made permanent at Elland Road, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT.

The USA international joined the Whites from Juventus on loan in the January window and has a clause in his agreement to move to Yorkshire for good that would cost in the region of £30 million.

Leeds United latest transfer news - Weston McKennie

Lately, Italian outlet TuttoJuve has provided an update on the future of McKennie as a Leeds United player, detailing two main factors that could make or break his buy-out clause being activated - in addition to the fact that the manager who brought him in, American compatriot Jesse Marsch, has now left Elland Road.

Firstly, it is said that the Whites can only buy McKennie permanently if he is to make at least ten appearances between now and the end of the season.

It will be up to newly appointed boss Javi Gracia to determine if McKennie fits into his plans for the remainder of this term given he is yet to reach that figure.

Secondly, there is the barrier of potential relegation, which would rule out the possibility of the 24-year-old joining up at Elland Road permanently and leave him in limbo regarding his future. The Express claim there is a slight chance McKennie could end up at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer if his spell in Yorkshire doesn't work out.

What has Dean Jones said about Weston McKennie?

Transfer insider Jones still thinks that McKennie could be a pivotal player for Leeds United in their battle against relegation.

Jones told GMS: "I mean, there's still other interest out there for him, but if Leeds turn the corner and Gracia puts him at the centre of the project, I think it could actually still turn out well."

Will Weston McKennie end up at Elland Road permanently?

Right now, it is impossible to tell whether McKennie will actually end up at Elland Road given their struggles to maintain their Premier League status.

Leeds remain bang in trouble at the foot of the table and they need Gracia to deliver points and deliver them quickly to ensure they survive this battle with the likes of Southampton, Bournemouth, West Ham and Everton.

Gracia couldn't have asked for a more pressurized environment to walk into, though will hope he can quickly turn the fortunes of the Yorkshire outfit around.
