Lionel Messi, the man that needs no introduction. The Argentina international is regarded as one of, if not the greatest football player in the history of the sport. Messi, aged 33, has not only inspired the next generation of talent coming through the ranks; he has simply captivated the entire footballing world. The only prized asset Messi has failed to win is the World Cup with Argentina; his best accomplishment in this competition coming in 2014, narrowly losing out to Germany in extra-time. But Messi’s superior individual talent has never been in question; in 2012, Messi broke the record for most goals in a calendar year, netting 91 goals in competitive matches. He has also won the Ballon d’Or six times, the most by any individual since the award began.
