Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has left boss Erik ten Hag with 'a little bit of a concern' after suffering an ankle problem at Old Trafford and 'the next 24 hours will be key' in his recovery, injury expert Ben Dinnery has told GiveMeSport.

The Red Devils are set to go head-to-head with Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, but there are question marks over whether Rashford will be available.

Man United injury news - Marcus Rashford

According to Sky Sports, ten Hag is doubtful over whether Rashford will be available for the Carabao Cup final this weekend.

The report suggests the England international was due to report to Carrington for medical examinations after limping off during Manchester United's 2-1 Europa League win over Barcelona on Thursday, which booked their place in the last 16.

Rashford sustained an ankle injury during the closing stages of the encounter, which resulted in him needing to be replaced by Scott McTominay.

It appears that the winger is in a race against time to be fit for Manchester United's trip to Wembley and he took to social media to share a photo of himself walking down the touchline with his left boot in his hand, accompanied with a bandage emoji.

Rashford's setback has come just a matter of days after respected journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport that the Red Devils' academy product is seeking a new contract worth upwards of £200,000-per-week.

What has Ben Dinnery said about Rashford?

Dinnery believes Rashford has left ten Hag and Manchester United supporters fretting over his fitness ahead of competing for silverware this weekend.

The injury news journalist feels the next 24 hours will be pivotal in deciding whether the 25-year-old will be able to compete at Wembley.

In an interview with GiveMeSport on Friday, Dinnery said: "It looks to be an impact injury and we did see him struggling towards the end of the game, so that was forced.

"Of course, in those early post-match discussions with Erik ten Hag, things were extremely vague. Injuries can present themselves and maybe are not as bad as initially feared, and vice versa.

"Ahead of the Carabao Cup final, of course, that is a little bit of a concern. The next 24 hours will be key and today will be a recovery day for the player, so we'll see in terms of being evaluated and assessed. The players will probably travel down on Saturday."

Would Rashford be a huge loss for Man United?

Rashford has been in tremendous form this season, with Transfermarkt statistics showing he has found the back of the net 24 times and registered a further nine assists in 37 appearances.

He also has a decent record against Newcastle, racking up nine goal contributions in as many outings, so Manchester United will be desperate for him to be involved.

Rashford, who is on a contract worth £200,000-per-week, has played a pivotal role in the Red Devils reaching the Carabao Cup final as Sofascore data highlights that he has got his name on the scoresheet every 56 minutes.

The wide-man is the joint-top goalscorer in the competition, alongside Southampton striker Che Adams, further emphasising that he could be crucial at Wembley.

Only Bruno Fernandes and David De Gea, among his Manchester United teammates, have been handed better WhoScored average match ratings in the Carabao Cup this season.
