About Manchester City
Manchester City are rapidly transforming into one of the biggest clubs in English football. Nicknamed ‘The Citizens’, City have dominated on a domestic scale in recent years and despite not having an illustrious history packed with silverware, they are very quickly catching up with their close rivals such as Manchester United and Liverpool. Founded in 1880, this football club now regularly competes with the very best - both domestically and in European competitions.
City’s current manager, Pep Guardiola, has revolutionised the club, both in terms of success and the beautiful football they play. City have the financial resources to continuously evolve and adapt, which makes them such a scary outfit to the rest of the Premier League. However, they need to start performing in Europe to complement their domestic dominance.
Overall, City have won the First Division/Premier League title six times - four of those coming since 2011/12. Prior to their financial inheritance, the Citizens won the Second Division six times and won promotion from the Third Division in 1999. The club’s success and development has been fast; City have now won the FA Cup six times, the League Cup seven times and the FA Community Shield six times. On a European scale, City have won the European Cup Winners’ Cup once and will be seeking Champions League silverware sooner rather than later.
And with that influx of cash has come the influx of world-class players. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero are just a few examples of the outstanding talent Man City fans have been treated to in recent years. City are now in a position to sustain regular Premier League title challenges and push themselves towards the very best in world football.
