Manchester United's talks with Marcus Rashford over a new contract are headed in the right direction, journalist Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.

The forward's existing deal expires next summer and the Red Devils will be desperate to tie him down to a fresh one given the form that he is currently in.

Man United contract news - Marcus Rashford

Journalist Rudy Galetti recently told GMS that Rashford is actually close to signing an extension at Old Trafford.

Any new deal would be more than warranted, with the 25-year-old proving his worth of late.

This season, Rashford has scored 20 goals in all competitions for United, as per Transfermarkt. In the Carabao Cup, he has really shone, registering five times in five appearances to help Erik ten Hag's side reach the final.

All in all, he is not a player the Red Devils will want to lose.

What has Dean Jones said about Marcus Rashford's contract situation at Man United?

Jones says United's talks with Rashford about a new deal are progressing well.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "I do think they're headed in the right direction on this. I haven't heard any negativity around it, which is a good thing from a Man United point of view. I mean, the simple fact is, you have to reward a player when he gets to this level."

Are any clubs monitoring Marcus Rashford's contract situation at Man United?

You suspect Paris Saint-Germain are, with their president having publicly confirmed the Ligue 1 side's interest in the England star before.

"He's another player that is really amazing," Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports prior to United triggering a one-year extension in Rashford's existing deal. "And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.

"We're not hiding it, we spoke before and… interest. But the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?"

PSG, of course, are no longer able to sign Rashford, who is valued at around £49m by Transfermarkt, for free.

However, if he does not put pen to paper on an extension, it obviously becomes a possibility again, so United will not want this to drag on for too long.

It may take a big contract to keep him at Old Trafford, but finding a replacement for Rashford would be difficult, so it may be worth giving the attacker what he wants as long as it is nothing stupid.
