Abedi Pele, now aged 80, is an all-time great among the footballing world and is widely considered as the best to ever play the sport. The debate between himself and the likes of Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and the Brazilian Ronaldo will always spark controversy, but one thing for certain is that Pele was a special player.
When it comes to Pele’s stats, the figures reported have often caused stirs among fans. Some figures include goals scored in friendly matches, which is the numbers reported to this day. Using those stats, Pele scored 757 goals in 812 matches for both club and country. The Brazilian striker spent most of his time playing for Santos before making a brief cameo at New York Cosmos towards the end of his career.
Pele was a phenomenal footballer and won everything there was to win with Santos in the Brazilian division. However, what was more impressive was his ability to win the World Cup on three separate occasions – his first coming aged just 18.
