Ryan Garcia

Ryan Garcia Profile

Ryan Garcia is an American professional boxer who competes in the Lightweight division but has also been involved in the Super featherweight class.

Born in Victorville, California on 8th August 1998, Garcia started boxing at the age of seven and quickly became an accomplished amateur boxer, amassing a record of 215-15 and was a 15-time amateur champion.

Garcia went on to turn professional in 2016 and beat Edgar Meza in Tijuana, Mexico in his debut bout, winning the match by TKO and signing with Golden Boy Promotions four months later.

After 11 fights, Garcia picked up the vacant WBC-NABF Junior Super Featherweight title after knocking out Miguel Carrizoza. He would go on to make two successful defences in the space of five months before picking up the vacant WBO-NABO Super Featherweight title against Jayson Velez for good measure.

In September 2019, Garcia would be part of the co-main event alongside Canelo Alvarez at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, taking on Romero Duno for the WBC Silver Lightweight title. He would end the match as quickly as it started with a spectacular first-round knockout to win the belt. A similar fate happened with his next opponent Francisco Fonseca in Anaheim where the fight ended inside the first three minutes.

To date, Garcia’s most impressive performance came against GB Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell for the interim WBC Lightweight title in California in January 2021. After hitting the canvas in the second round, Garcia defeated Campbell with a left hook to the body in the seventh – maintaining his perfect professional record.

Outside of the ring, Garcia has three sisters and a brother, Sean, who is also a professional boxer.
