Southampton could turn to Jesse Marsch as their next manager, should Nathan Jones face the sack in the coming weeks, journalist Dean Jones revealed to GIVEMESPORT.

Marsch, who has taken charge of 262 games in his career, was shown the door by Leeds United earlier in the week, with Jones believing a move to the south coast could benefit both the manager and Southampton.

Southampton manager news - Jesse Marsch

Despite only being appointed in the role as little as three months ago, the pressure is already starting to mount on Southampton boss Jones.

In a recent interview with GMS, journalist Jones claimed the ex-Luton Town chief could end up being sacked by Southampton in the near future.

“I'm half expecting that the owners of Saints will end up having to get rid of him,” Jones claimed when quizzed about the Southampton manager’s future.

Jones has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League so far, having guided Saints to just one win in the division.

That came away to struggling Everton, who at the time also occupied a position in the Premier League’s bottom three.

However, with the Toffees looking as if they’ve turned a corner following Sean Dyche’s appointment, Sport Republic will now have to make a call on whether they decide to stick with Jones for the remainder of the campaign.

What has Dean Jones said about Nathan Jones’ future at Southampton?

As the gap between themselves and safety begins to grow bigger, Southampton could be forced to cut ties with Jones, should they wish to protect their top-flight status.

Speaking on the prospect of potential replacements, journalist Jones tipped the recently departed Leeds boss Marsch to be on the list of prospective candidates.

On the 49-year-old’s rumoured move to Southampton, Jones said: “Otherwise Marsch is probably going to have to turn away from European football for a little bit and try something else.

“But I honestly do think that there are worse ideas than to turn to Jesse Marsch right now.”

Would Marsch be a worthwhile appointment for Southampton?

According to Transfermarkt, Marsch finished his time in the Premier League boasting just 1.03 points per game in the division - a record that ultimately got the American coach sacked.

During that time there were some impressive results to shout about for Marsch, with the ex-RB Leipzig boss masterminding victories over Chelsea and Liverpool.

However, a total of eight victories from 33 games in charge suggested Marsch was perhaps out of his depth in the Premier League.

That being said, Marsch does have experience at dragging a side out of the Premier League drop zone mid-season, having arrived at Elland Road partway through the campaign this time last year.

Leeds were trapped inside the relegation zone when Marsch took charge in February 2022, with the 49-year-old eventually guiding the Whites to safety on the final day of the campaign.
