Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez has 'never been good enough' in his time at Hotspur Way, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has informed GIVEMESPORT.

Sanchez joined Spurs back in 2017 from Ajax for a then-record fee of £42 million, though has gone on to have a mixed time of things in North London.

Tottenham Hotspur latest news - Davinson Sanchez

In 2022/23, Sanchez has been used sparingly by Tottenham manager Antonio Conte and has made 17 appearances this term, being selected to make just nine starts in total, as per Transfermarkt.

The 26-year-old has played just 16 minutes of Premier League football for Spurs in 2023, with other central defensive options being preferred to the 51-cap Colombia international in their hunt for a top-four finish.

Last month, Football London journalist Alisdair Gold reported that "Spurs were willing to let Lucas Moura and Davinson Sanchez go" before the end of the January deadline; however, no suitors came forward to offer him an exit route from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Sanchez is contracted to Tottenham until June 2024, with an Expected Transfer Value (ETV) of around €25.9 million (£23 million), as per FootballTransfers.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Davinson Sanchez?

Daily Express journalist Taylor believes that Sanchez has 'never been good enough' at Tottenham and doesn't see a future for him at the club.

Taylor told GMS: "Davinson Sanchez has never been good enough. Japhet Tanganga, I feel sorry for because he's not had a run of games, his progression was really halted".

What now for Davinson Sanchez at Tottenham Hotspur?

Given that he has less than 18 months left on his deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it may be the most convenient solution for both parties to go their separate ways in the summer transfer window.

Spurs will want to avoid any scenario where Sanchez leaves the club for free in 2024, which may prompt them to make the 26-year-old available for purchase to try and obtain a fee for his services and recoup some of the £42 million they shelled out for him back in 2017.

Sanchez told the Evening Standard last month that he did not want to "disappear from football" amid a lack of game time at Tottenham and said that he might have a "decision to make" if his situation does not improve at the club.

Going forward, the Colombia international may feel that the time has come for him to seek a new challenge in his career.
