West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion Profile

West Bromwich Albion – better known as West Brom – is an excellent football club with a long, illustrious history. Founded in 1878, the club is nicknamed ‘The Baggies’ and has a long-standing rivalry with both Aston Villa and Wolves. For the main part of their recent history, West Brom have been an established, Premier League club but relegations to the Championship has occurred in that time and rocked the stability of the West Midlands outfit.

The Baggies fans will be optimistic that the club can recreate some of the success it had in their early history. With a number of talented players entertaining the Hawthorns over the years, West Brom will be hoping to find stability in the Premier League once again and push on to compete for a European spot. The top tier of English football remains one of the most competitive in the world; West Brom fans will know how difficult this will be but it is certainly attainable.

Overall, West Brom have endured great success throughout the club’s history. The Baggies have won the First Division – now known as the Premier League – on one occasion, dating back to the 1919/20 campaign. They have also finished runners-up of the competition twice and have won the second tier of English football twice. On top of that success, West Brom are five-time FA Cup winners – coming in 1888, 1892, 1931, 1954 and 1968 – and have won the League Cup once (1966).

The Baggies are also two-time FA Charity Shield winners, but have failed to create any European success throughout their history. The target for West Brom in the coming years is to stabilise in the Premier League and create opportunities to add to their already successful history; both the FA Cup and League Cup are up for grabs each year and the Baggiest faithful will be hoping to see success in one of those competitions in the near future.
