Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has said that he feels for Lando Norris and has suggested that the McLaren man may feel a little bit guilty over the way the Russian Grand Prix ended for him and his team.

Formula 1 can certainly be a cruel sport at times and there was no better example of that than yesterday afternoon as the rain fell down in the final few laps at the Sochi circuit, setting the scene for Lando to lose out on his first-ever F1 victory as he opted to stay out on slicks.

Indeed, he and his McLaren team were back and forth on the radio in the closing stages, trying to work out how heavy the rain would be and whether they'd be able to see the race out on slicks - making the soon to be doomed decision to stay out on the dry tyre, leading to Lando slipping off of the circuit and out of the lead.

It was a heartbreaking moment for Lando and the team, just two weeks on from winning the Italian Grand Prix with teammate Daniel Ricciardo, and Leclerc has said he feels sorry for the Briton and suggested he might feel an element of guilt for how it all went:

“I can imagine what he’s feeling because also he’s part of the decision process in those type of situations and he might feel very, very guilty,” said Leclerc.

“But he’s an amazing driver. I think he has shown it very often this season. He has had a very strong season and I’m sure he will he will learn from it.

“It’s just a matter of time before his first win. I don’t think he should feel so down after the race he has done.”

Certainly, Norris' time in the sport will come and, hopefully, this experience will help him in the long run when he's next in a position to win a Grand Prix.
